MUMMY MONDAY – REAL MAMA – ASHLEY, A Mothers Edit

Happy Monday Mama’s!

It’s the big day for us today. When this goes live Mills will be at school and I will, no doubt, be a blubbering wreck. As the day has crept closer I’ve been getting very emotional. Ironing his uniform and labelling everything sent me over the edge today. He needs it. I need it. But oh boy am I going to miss my little toad.

Today will be all about Mama to take my mind off it. I’m heading for brunch and shopping with my Mama. Pampering and baby prep being the focus of the day.

I was so excited to get Mummy Monday back on the blog last week and it was lovely hearing from other real Mama’s wanting to get involved and chatting about real life as a Mother. Thank you for getting in touch.

Now, onto this week’s Real Mama:

I’m super excited to welcome the gorgeous Ashley from aMothersEdit onto the blog today for a super stylish Mummy Monday. I recently discovered Ashely’s insta feed and can’t get enough of her fashion-inspo, Mama life and all the prettiness. Her love of leopard print and denim got me hook, line and sinker. Over to you Ashley…

What’s your wardrobe must have: Anything denim – jeans, cut offs, levis skirt.

Your perfect way to relax: With plenty of wine

Currently reading/watching/listening to: Just finished watching Stranger Things, it was fantastic, and now we are working our way through Fargo series 2. Next up is the new series of Narcos

Proudest moment of your life: Everytime I watch Vivienne befriending someone in the park, she is so loving and caring of other children it makes me beam with pride.

Words you live by: Let go of the things you cannot control.

Your must have product: Aussie three minute miracle – without it my bleached mop would be a disaster!

Being a Mama

What do you love most about being a Mummy: the way she looks at me for all the answers. The responsibility I have for this little lady is pretty daunting but so special.

What could you do without: Tantrums!

What 5 words best describe your birth story: ‘I try to forget it’ – that’s five words right?!

What should every Mama have in the birthing room: A supportive birthing partner.

What got you through the first weeks with a new baby: Friends and family helping me with the little things- my mum popped over and cleaned the bathroom, friends brought home cooked meals to put in the freezer for us… and they knew when to leave too! Very important!

Funny things Vivienne does: Vivienne is still learning to talk so there are a lot of words that come out completely wrong. But the Frozen song – Let it Go – she has that down to a tee and will sing it very loudly in her cot at 6.30am.

ashley-amothersedit-4

How do you keep Vivienne entertained: Simple things are always the best… currently it’s a tub of water in the garden and she likes playing with her cars and little people jumping in and out.

How did you decide on her name: I wanted something you don’t hear very often and spent hours online looking at various websites. As soon as I read Vivienne I knew it was perfect. So feminine and elegant.

Where do you shop for your kids: I love Zara and Gap. And all her nursery clothes are from H&M – their basic collection is fantastic for tshirts and leggings.

Best piece of advice you could give other Mamas: We go through every aspect of life making our own decisions and learning as we go… suddenly we fall pregnant and loose our confidence. Listen to people’s advice, read the books etc but at the end of the day you have to trust your own instinct and do what feels right for you.

– thank you so much for taking part Ashley. xx

Mummy Monday – Real Mama – Rachel Bee

Good morning!

Today is a big day for so many Mama’s, sending their babies off to big school for the first time. I’m feeling you! We start next Monday and the dread is kicking in. As much as I’m ready for a ‘break’ after the holidays, I’m going to miss having my boy home with me during the week. I hope you’ve got something nice planned to take your mind off it. I’ve got your Monday morning cuppa read sorted anyway…

With our houses returning to an eerie quiet, I thought I’d re-launch an original feature I started way back in 2012 for your mid-morning cuppa read. I love hearing from real Mums about their tips and advice, so I’ve brought back Mummy Monday – and today’s Real Mama is the ever so lovely Rachel from Rachel Bee Jewellery. A fab lady I’ve been ‘social’ with since M was a wee babe, who designs beautiful jewellery and seems to be up at the crack of dawn most mornings creating and making with her gorgeous boy. Who has clearly inherited his Mama’s creative genes. (check out her insta feed)

Over to you Rachel. xx

Being a Mum

What do you love most about being a Mummy: Every morning the beaming smiles I get from Evie when I walk into her bedroom and the big cuddles she is now giving me!

What could you do without: Tummy Bugs, Evie is just getting over her first one now! Yuk!!

In 5 words describe your labour story: Long, tiring, natural, emotional, amazing

What essential items should be taken into the labour room: Food for afterwards….god I was hungry!!

Top tips for getting through the first weeks with a new baby: Do what feels right and don’t feel pressured to do anything. Don’t worry about doing things such as cleaning etc, enjoy every minute of your new addition and most of all accept all help offered!

Funny things she does: Every time the Mickey Mouse ‘Hot Dog’ song comes on Evie stops what she’s doing to have a little dance!

The one product you couldn’t live without now you’re a Mum: My camera…. I have hundreds of photos of her already!! Don’t want to forget a minute of her growing up and learning new things

How do you keep her entertained: We sit and read together and play lots of hide & seek. We also go swimming twice a week which she loves! Right little water baby! We also meet up with friends and go on different days out.

Where do you shop for Evie’s clothes: Primark, M&S, Next, Tesco & TK Maxx.

Thank you Luce. Totally agree with your essential products. My camera is always on me now. I’ve never taken so many photos. But they grow too quickly to risk missing a second.

Here are some more pictures of the beautiful Evie. How cute is she. xx

Mummy Monday – real Mum Hannah @theREALjeevesy

Good morning! Well, I am super chuffed to have yet another fabulous blogger featuring on my very own blog. The lovely Hannah from ‘Make, Do and Push‘ has answered some questions for you about Motherhood. Go have a read, and just look at this beautiful photo…

Hannah and Busby

Getting to know you

Name: Hannah

Twitter name: @theREALjeevesy

Blog: www.makedoandpush.co.uk

Occupation: When I’m not on maternity leave I work in public sector management (for my sins). However, I’ve used my maternity leave wisely and have obtained some regular freelance writing, which is what I actually want to do! So fingers crossed for a career change in the coming months.

Mummy to: Busby, my almost 9 month old daughter.

What’s your wardrobe must have: A dress that makes you feel fab!

What’s your perfect way to relax: A massage and facial! Yum! Sadly, I don’t manage this as often as I used to pre-baby!

Currently reading/watching/listening: Reading Lady Chatterley’s Lover as it’s the theme for our wedding… and watching New Girl – oh lordy, I’ve only just discovered it and LOVE it!!

Proudest moment of your life: Bringing Busby into the world! Such an obvious answer, but it’s the truth.

Favourite quote: “…so many words because I can’t touch you. If I could sleep with my arms round you, the ink could stay in the bottle…” Lady Chatterley’s Lover, DH Lawrence

Your ‘swear by’ product: Vaseline with Aloe vera – a boring answer, but I use this every day.

Being a Mum

What do you love most about being a Mummy: Cuddles! I love it when Busby falls asleep on me – she looks so peaceful and is so snuggly!!

In 5 words describe your labour story: Frustrating, painful, scary, exhausting, empowering.

What essential items should be taken into the labour room:

1. Lots to drinks for afterwards – I didn’t want anything during labour, but afterwards it was all about the sugary drinks and copious amounts of water.

2. Big pants that you don’t mind throwing away – I didn’t want to wear paper pants, so bought a pack of super comfy M&S pants that were 2 sizes too big. They were perfect postpartum!

Top tips for getting through the first weeks with a new baby: Expect to feel utterly rubbish; you will have amazing moments, but there are times like day 3 when your milk comes in where you feel like the world is about to end. Also, get in as many newborn cuddles as possible – they only stay that small for so long. Waah!

Funny things she does: Busby finds it hilarious when we yawn… and she also tries to share her food with us, which is very funny! Rusk to the eye!

Most embarrassing moment since becoming a Mum: Half asleep on the bus I stood up to press the bell, and went to sit back down (forgetting I’d been sitting with the pram in the foldable seats)… the seat had folded back up and I fell right on my bum. The bus went silent and for some reason I apologised to the bus… No idea why. Luckily the next stop was ours!

The one product you couldn’t live without now you’re a Mum: Cake? Gin? Um… For Busby it would have to be teething granules. They have been a life saver during teething! For me it’s my Barry M Kohl Eye Pencil – it makes me look alive, even when I feel dreadful!

How do you keep Busby entertained: Lots of singing and dancing! Music is such a big part of my life and I’d love Busby to have the same passion for it.

How did you decide on her name: Busby’s real name was our favourite girls name from the start, it then got put to one side whilst Matilda ruled… and then she came out! She didn’t look like a Matilda, so Busby it was. We then found out that my Grandpas Mother was called Busby, so that made it all the more special!

Where do you shop for her clothes: H&M Kids is one of my favourites; very reasonably priced and lots of fun colours. I also love Baby Gap!

Thank you so much Hannah. Loved having you on here. Your embarrassing moment really did make me chuckle. You’re so sweet to apologise to the bus. 😉 You can check out Hannah’s blog ‘here‘ and keep up to date with her wedding plans and her beautiful girl.

If you’d like to be a Mummy Monday, I’d love to hear from you. I’m always looking for lovely Mama’s to share their different parenting methods, lessons and tips. Just email me at gemmaguscott[at]gmail.com and I’ll send over the questions. Go on, it’ll only take a few minutes. 😉 xx
